Facts about the barge: Length 13.5 m. – width: 3.2 m. Maximum number of passengers: 12. 10 of the 12 seats are under cover. The barge is only permitted to sail within the boundaries of Copenhagen harbour.
The barge represents a part of Danish maritime history. The classic, clean cut vessel was built in Copenhagen in 1926 for the port authorities who used it to transport notabilities and members of the royal family round the harbour area.
The materials this fully restored vessel is made from are very typical of the early 20th century: Mahogany planking, oak frames, ash veneer. The saloon exhibits the finest carpentry and the cushions, curtains and the other textiles used to decorate the saloon is of the kind of high quality you only find in vessels which have been carefully crafted by hand.
Among the royals who have been transported round the harbour by the barge is King Christian the 10th. The king was 1.91 m. tall which is why room height in the saloon is 1.93 m. |
